A Morning Commute With A Car-Free Bostonian
When you live in Boston or Cambridge, commuting to our Waverley Oaks Park campus in Waltham is seamless with our dedicated shuttle service, offering connections to and from Alewife MBTA Red Line Station and Waverley MBTA Commuter Rail Station.
The Waverley Oaks Shuttle is a great resource for the reverse commuter. Whether you have a car and prefer the perks of commuting car-free or embrace the advantages of a car-less lifestyle, our shuttle is fast, reliable, and comfortable.
Let’s take a trip with commuter, Madora, as she commutes from Cambridge’s vibrant Kendall Square, home to the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a thriving biotech and tech industry.
What to explore more? Experience the commute for yourself – virtually that is! From Kendall Square to Waltham and everything in between.
6:50AM
KENDALL SQUARE – CAMBRIDGE
I enter Kendall Station and swipe my Charlie Card. A monthly pass is only $90 a month which not only gives you access to the various subway lines, but also bus and ferry routes!

6:52AM
A train is approaching as I step on to the platform. During rush hour, trains run frequently – on average every 6 minutes.

6:53AM – 7:10AM
I choose an empty seat, one of the many perks of reverse-commuting. During the ride from Kendall to Alewife Station, I scroll through social media catching up on news and the latest memes.
The ride is quick considering the number of neighborhoods we pass through: Central, Harvard, Porter and Davis Square.

7:12AM
ALEWIFE STATION – NORTH CAMBRIDGE
I arrive at Alewife Station with a few minutes to spare, so I make a quick stop at Dunkin’ for coffee – conveniently located right inside the station!

7:20AM
The shuttle has a live tracking feature which is great locating the shuttle in real time.
As the shuttle departs Alewife Station, I sit back and relax with coffee in hand.

7:21AM – 7:35AM
The ride is peaceful and relaxing, and I use this time to check emails and respond to a few text messages.
7:36AM
The second stop on the route is Waverley Commuter Rail Station, which is a part of the Fitchburg Line originating at Boston’s North Station. The station also has bus connections to two MBTA routes: 73 to Harvard Square & 554 to Newton Corner. A few more passengers get on the shuttle, and we continue to our final destination.

7:55AM
WALTHAM, MA
The shuttle arrives at 425 Waverley Oaks Rd! I thank the driver and head into the office.
The shuttle makes two stops within the park, and will continue on to 271 Waverley Oaks Rd before heading back to Alewife station for its next departure.
